Katherine Strause

Katherine Strause’s paintings utilize vintage photographs as inspiration for her entergetic contemporary figurative work. In an essay by Dr. Laura Amrhein, Strause states, “…I approach these images as subject matter and create my own relationship with these individuals. These portraits possess a look of determination and hope. They represent us all.”

Strause earned a B.A. in Visual Art from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and M.F.A. in painting from Southern Illiniois University at Edwardsville. Her work has been included in numerous notable exhibitions including The Delta Exhibit at the Arkansas Arts Center, Little Rock, AR; Frauen Circus, Museum Phase 6, Museumsausstellung 2015, International Art Fair of Contemporary Women Artists, Graz Austria; The Figure Now, an International Juried Exhibition, Gallery of Art, Fontbonne University, St. Louis, MO; Katherine Strause, Narrative Paintings, Texarkana Regional Art Center, Texarkana, TX; and many more. Strause currently serves as the Chair of the Department of Art at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
